Speaking on Football Focus (BBC Two 12:00PM 17/4/21), Jermaine Beckford has heaped praise upon Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
Leeds have lit up the Premier League this season, and while Patrick Bamford has been the Whites’ top scorer, Kalvin Phillips is the man who has been making headlines for his exploits for England.
Phillips did an interview with Ian Wright for Football Focus, and after that segment aired Jermaine Beckford had plenty to say about the Leeds star.
“For me he is a fantastic football player, I’m not just saying that because I’m a fan of his or a fan of Leeds United, but if you look at his positioning, his passing ability and his awareness. You know, he’s so selfless. He does so much for the team, and he’s also got a great assist in him as well,” Beckford said.
The ex-Leeds striker is spot on here.
Phillips may not be the flashiest player in the world, and perhaps that’s why England supporters aren’t as enamoured with him as the Leeds fanbase, but he does his job and he does it well.
The midfielder keeps United ticking over and he plays an incredibly vital role in Marcelo Bielsa’s team as the holding midfielder in the Argentine’s patented 4-1-4-1 formation.
Phillips is a splendid footballer and it’s great to see him getting the credit he deserves in the media.
