Mauricio Pochettino has produced a Tottenham Hotspur squad finely balanced and in form which is no part down to a precise and measured approach when it comes to the transfer window.
Yes, Spurs have signed some flops in the form of Georges N’Koudou, Clinton N’Jie and Vincent Janssen, but overall, the Spurs squad is well-balanced and they are not suffering from any problem areas at the moment.
However, the future of Toby Alderweireld is a concern despite having another season left on his contract. His departure would leave Spurs slightly light at centre-back.
The north Londoners have had to make do without Alderweireld for much of the 2017-18 campaign, with Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth replacing the former Atletico Madrid star.
But losing him permanently would surely tempt Pochettino into adding a new player in the transfer market and that current target seems to be £35million-rated Bayer Leverkusen powerhouse Jonathan Tah, according to the Mirror.
At just 22 years of age, Tah has plenty of room to develop and would be a very strong, long-term replacement for Alderweireld. Foyth remains a prospect for the future too, so would Cameron Carter-Vickers’ future be in doubt?
Currently on loan at Ipswich, 20-year-old Carter-Vickers is way down the pecking order at Spurs even without Alderweireld available. With the added addition of Tah, a player considered better than Carter-Vickers at a similar age, he may struggle to find any game time with the north Londoners.
It could see the signing of Tah force USA international Carter-Vickers out of the door on a permanent basis, unless Pochettino is willing to give him more of a chance next season.
