Leeds United could have nabbed Jonny Howson back from Norwich City this summer – but brought in the seldom-seen Klich instead

Klich became the first signing of the Thomas Christiansen era at Elland Road in June but, after just seven appearances, may have already been written off. In fact, the Polish international hasn’t played a single Championship game since September’s 3-1 loss at Cardiff City, in which his error gifted the hosts their second goal.
With Leeds director of football Victor Orta heavily criticised for choosing cheap, imported additions over proven Championship talent, the fact that the £1.5 million signing from FC Twente could be on his way already adds weight to the supporters’ frustrations.
Especially after the man that Leeds fans really wanted slipped through their grasp.
£3.5m more but worth it
The Mirror reported that Leeds wanted to re-sign their former captain Jonny Howson from Norwich City this summer and were told to pay £5 million.
And, understandably, supporters were less than impressed when Howson instead joined Middlesbrough, joining up with former Leeds boss Garry Monk on Riverside. Leeds, it appeared, were unwilling to meet Norwich’s demands.
Signing Klich while failing to meet Howson’s price-tag almost sums up the divisive transfer policy in place under Orta and owner Andrea Radrizzani. The duo have been accused of looking for value and bargains over guaranteed quality.
And the frustration will not be helped by Klich leaving Elland Road in January while Howson continues to impress for promotion chasing Boro.
