Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has responded to comments from Danny Rose that he was “fuming” after being left on the bench for the North London derby.

Rose was quoted by the Telegraph following the 2-0 defeat at Arsenal admitting he was “angry” to be omitted but that there had been no falling out with Pochettino.

Now the Argentine has responded to his left-back and despite rebuffing claims of a bust-up, it seems relations between the two are somewhat strained.

“[Rose’s remarks] surprised me because all players are upset when they are not involved,” Pochettino was quoted by the Guardian.

“They are not happy. If you saw the faces of the ones on the bench and the two who are out of the squad on matchday – if you had a camera on their faces – it would scare you.

“It surprised me to create a problem like this when there wasn’t one. But for me I am happy that he was angry. If he is angry it means he wanted to play. But in the same way, I don’t care. Because it is my decision and I need to take the best decision for the team.”

This is not the first time this season that Rose’s comments to the press have caused problems, with the 27-year-old criticising Spurs’ transfer policy and wage structure during an interview with the Sun in August.

The defender has been strongly linked with Manchester United for some time, with the Mirror reporting that the Red Devils are preparing a move for the England international during the January transfer window.

The fact that Pochettino and Rose are having this most recent spat so publicly would suggest that it would not be at all surprising if the full-back did leave the North Londoners in the near future.
