Lee Hodson has endured a difficult first year with Glasgow Rangers, so perhaps the Gers’ interest in another player suggests his days at Ibrox may be numbered.

A recent report from the Daily Record has suggested that Pedro Caixinha has earmarked Hearts’ Callum Paterson as a potential summer target as he plots an overhaul of his Rangers squad.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether anything comes of their interest, but perhaps it would not be out of the question to suggest that the links with the 22-year-old hint that Lee Hodson’s future could well lie away from Ibrox.

Hodson has endured a difficult first season with the Gers, struggling to displace James Tavernier as the side’s first choice right-back, and he recently admitted to the club’s official website that he had not held any talks with Caixinha about his future, expecting discussions to take place at the end of the campaign.

The Northern Ireland international has barely featured under the Portuguese, and the reported interest in Paterson surely hints that he stands little chance of moving himself up the pecking order in the future if a deal takes place.

With Paterson out of contract with Hearts this summer (via Daily Record), it would perhaps not be a surprise if bringing him in appeals to Caixinha, especially with The Scottish Sun recently reporting that Hodson is attracting interest from Charlton.

Given Hodson’s peripheral role, it would arguably be a tremendous piece of business to sell him on for some kind of fee and acquire a talented replacement available on a Bosman as it may potentially boost the funds he has to spend on other areas of the squad in what is a crucial summer for the club.

Therefore, it may not be too unthinkable to suggest that Hodson’s days with the Gers may well be numbered if their interest in Paterson intensifies in the near future.
