Jordan Houston of Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers might not be thrilled by Matt Polster’s addition.

You could forgive Jordan Houston if he wasn’t elated by Rangers’ decision to sign Matt Polster.
The 25-year-old signed a two-and-a-half year deal [official website] with Rangers in the final week of the January transfer window.
Polster, a USA international, can play right-back or midfield, but it’s likely that manager Steven Gerrard plots to use him as cover for James Tavernier, considering he already has quite a lot of midfielders as it is.
And is his signing an indication that Gerrard doesn’t quite trust Houston just yet?
The 19-year-old made his senior Rangers debut in the win over Cowdenbeath last week, but it might be his last first-team outing for a while.
From his perspective, he must wonder whether Gerrard believes he is ready to cover Tavernier. If he is ready, why sign Polster?
Tavernier has made close to 150 appearances for the light Blues in four years. He is virtually never injured and therefore even Polster might struggle for minutes under Gerrard this season.

And if that’s the case for him, then it’s ominous for Houston.
The teenager has a very bright future at Ibrox, but his debut last week might’ve been a false dawn and one which offered an inaccurate sense of how close he is to breaking into Gerrard’s squad on a regular basis.
If anything, he is further away now than he was before Polster came.
