Paul Senior’s time at Blackburn Rovers is over – and the Lancastrians’ chances of re-signing Lucas Joao might be too.

Senior helped to sign Joao at both Blackburn and Sheffield Wednesday, to whom the Portuguese striker will return summer having scored three goals and created another in 13 outings for his temporary employers.

Though a respectable tally, it is not one which is likely to catapult Joao back into first team contention at Hillsborough next season – regardless of the division in which Wednesday find themselves – with Jordan Rhodes, Fernando Forestieri, Steven Fletcher, Gary Hooper and Sam Winnall for competition.

Neither could it save Rovers from the drop – and that alone could curtail any hope Tony Mowbray’s side might have had of re-acquiring the 23-year-old.

But with Senior quick to exit Ewood Park in the aftermath of Blackburn’s relegation, it’s reasonable to assume Joao won’t be turning out for League One’s newest addition next term – although he might well have an eye on the former Owls adviser’s next move.
