Derby County are reportedly willing to pay £4m for Dominic Iorfa – and developments at Wolves last week mean they may be in luck.
It’s fair to say we saw this coming. Paul Lambert has departed Wolverhampton Wanderers after just six months in charge and his reasons for doing so are understandable to say the least.
The Daily Mail claim that the club’s Chinese owners will put unappointed super-agent Jorge Mendes in charge of recruitment with Nuno Espirito Santo set to be appointed as manager.
Nuno (below) was Mendes’ first ever client. And, at former club Valencia, he was labelled the Portuguese’s ‘puppet’ due to their close relationship.
Consequently, you can expect that the entrance to Molineux will be used quite frequently this summer with Mendes likely to bring in his own players. What this means for the individuals already contracted to the club, however, is anyone’s guess.
Dominic Iorfa may not have been one of the first names on Lambert’s team-sheet but the 21-year-old England youth international appeared to make great strides under the Scot’s tutelage in the second half of the season.
However, his future at Molineux is far from certain with the Express and Star claiming that Championship rivals Derby County will pay £4 million for his services this summer.
A strong and athletic centre-half, Iorfa would surely represent a potential long-term replacement for Richard Keogh.

And Derby’s hopes of nabbing the highly-rated defender will surely have been aided by the uncertainty hanging over Wolves.
Lambert appeared to make it a personal mission to get the best out of Iorfa. However, the task may not fall onto Derby boss Gary Rowett instead.
