Leeds United forward Oliver Sarkic has joined Spanish side Barakaldo CF on loan until the end of the season – becoming the 23rd player to leave Elland Road this summer – but does he have any chance of a future at Elland Road?

Former Benfica youth player Sarkic, 21, joined Leeds in January permanently after moving to the club’s Under-23 side on loan last summer and has continued to impress with Carlos Corberan’s second string.

He found the back of the net on a regular basis and has now opted to move out on loan to Spanish third tier side Barakaldo, who are participating in a league alongside Racing Santander, as well as Bilbao and Sociedad’s B teams.

But after failing to make a single appearance for Leeds’ first team since completing a permanent move to Elland Road, does Sarkic have any chance of building a career in Yorkshire?

Already 21 years of age, the likes of Lewis Cook, Charlie Taylor, Kalvin Phillips, Ronaldo Vieira and Sam Byram all broke into the Leeds side in their teenage years and that hardly spells well for Sarkic.

Twin brother of Matija Sarkic who is currently on the books at Aston Villa, the Leeds striker has two years remaining on his contract at Elland Road and that could perhaps be his saving grace.

Leeds boast a whole host of attacking stars that sit way above Sarkic in the pecking order including Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford, while youngsters Sam Dalby and Ryan Edmondson have been in and around the first team.

Sarkic has to have an excellent season in Spain with Barakaldo, scoring more than 20 goals, if he is to show Leeds that he has what it takes and is worth keeping.
