Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele is reportedly seeking an exit.
Mousa Dembele is clearly unhappy with Tottenham’s current proposals to extend his contract.
Did Harry Kane’s six-year extension and pay rise give him extra reason to feel aggrieved?
Dembele has just one year remaining on his Tottenham deal and the club obviously would rather get a fee than lose him for nothing.
Tottenham were unwilling to meet these demands, which would have put him on par with top earner Harry Kane.
Now Spurs have extended their pay structure, handing Kane a contract worth £200,000 per week with bonuses.
Part of the reason they are able to is due to their sensible spending elsewhere, including not giving contract which would include giving a player who will be 33 in three years time, a contract at £100,000 per week.
Yet with Spurs extending their pay structure, Dembele no longer will feel that it is a case of Tottenham not being able to meet his criteria, they are clearly just not willing to.
He won’t begrudge Kane his pay rise, but he will wonder why he is not deemed worthy of half what the England striker gets.
He is hopeful of getting what he wants elsewhere, and a sad parting of the ways looks inevitable this summer.
