Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is set to sign Jack Clarke, which is a further blow to Marcus Edwards’ hopes.

Marcus Edwards appears to be returning to Tottenham Hotspur a much more matured and refined player after his year in Holland, but it is hard to see how he ever gets back into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at White Hart Lane now.

Pochettino identified Edwards as one of Tottenham’s brightest prospects when he was a teenager, and even compared the attacker to Lionel Messi.

Edwards was handed his Tottenham full debut at the age of 17, but things have gone downhill for the youngster since.

Edwards’ attitude has come into question, and he has been sent out on loan over the past two seasons.

The 20-year-old was given the chance to play in Holland for Excelsior last season and finally showed signs that he was starting to fulfil his potential.

Since, Edwards has returned to Tottenham and insisted in an interview with the Independent that he has matured now.

However, it seems that it will be too little too late for Edwards to save his Tottenham career.

Spurs are set to sign Jack Clarke this summer, and Pochettino is also looking at other attacking additions, as reported by The Times.

With Tottenham already having the likes of Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura, Heung Min Son, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane at the club, Pochettino’s attacking options are stacked.

Clarke’s impending arrival is another blow to Edwards, as the Leeds United man is two years his senior and may well be considered to be Tottenham’s next big attacking hope now.

Even though Spurs could loan Clarke out next term, his first-team chances in future years look far greater than Edwards’ do.

And although Edwards is showing some very promising signs that he may well turn his career around, he may have to fulfil his potential away from White Hart Lane.
