Tottenham Hotspur remain admirers of James Maddison but will have to fend off competition from three of their Premier League rivals to sign the Norwich City midfielder, according to the London Evening Standard.

The Standard understands that Spurs have been monitoring the 21-year-old since his time at Coventry City, and his performances for Norwich have now caught the attention of Manchester City, Liverpool and Leicester City.

Maddison has been Norwich’s standout player in the Championship this season with seven goals and five assists. His goals have counted for 11 points, without which the Canaries would only be two points above the drop zone.

The East Anglia outfit have just sold former Spurs youngster Alex Pritchard to Huddersfield Town so would be reluctant to lose Maddison too, but lines of communication are already open between them and the Londoners.

Tottenham have just loaned highly-rated 19-year-old Marcus Edwards to Carrow Road for the rest of the season to help them fill the Pritchard void, so therefore may be in the best position to negotiate a deal for Maddison.

The Standard reports that Tottenham would be happy to loan the England Under-21 international back to East Angila until the summer if they can get a deal in the region of £20m signed and sealed during this transfer window.

Spurs have previously had success operating in this way when signing Dele Alli from MK Dons in 2015 and loaning him back, and their track record for developing youngsters is another advantage they hold in the Maddison race.
