Ross McCormack has been linked with Leeds and Sunderland but with Aston Villa struggling in attack should Steve Bruce give him another chance?

Aston Villa are currently second bottom in the Championship after a second successive defeat to Reading on Tuesday night to leave them with one point from three games.

Manager Steve Bruce watched on as his side again struggled in attack at the Madejski Stadium and left Berkshire with nothing after a 2-1 loss.

“We need to score, we need to really look at what we’ve got at the top end of the pitch because without [Jonathan] Kodjia at the moment we are a bit toothless I have to say that,” Bruce told the Birmingham Mail after the match.

“We have to try to address that if we can.”

Bruce did also add the caveat that “there won’t be millions spent”, though, with the Villans already having six forwards on their books in Kodjia, Scott Hogan, Ross McCormack, Gabby Agbonlahor, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Keinan Davis.

McCormack is yet to play this season after being frozen out somewhat at Villa Park despite only joining the Birmingham club from Fulham in a £12m deal (BBC) in the summer of 2016.

The 30-year-old fell out with Bruce last term and was sent on loan to Nottingham Forest as a result and has been linked with a move to former club Leeds United and Sunderland this window by the Daily Mail.

Yet with Bruce’s current options in attack failing to meet requirements and finances limited, perhaps the 56-year-old should look to patch things up with the McCormack and give him another chance to prove himself.

Villa still have three more games before the transfer window shuts, so maybe those should be outlined as the matches the Scotland international has to show he still has a future at the club.
