Leicester City spent heavily in the transfer window as they look to defend their Premier League crown.
Islam Slimani was one of Leicester’s high profile summer signings
Leicester City made an array of impressive signings throughout the summer, as they spent over £65 million in attempt to improve their squad in preparation of their Premier League title defence.
Islam Slimani and Ahmed Musa were the Foxes’ two most notable additions, and with Jamie Vardy, Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki already amongst their ranks, they really are in a very strong position in attacking areas.
Closer inspection of Ranieri’s first-team squad, however, reveals a worrying shortage of options in defence.
Robert Huth and Wes Morgan forged a magnificent partnership last season, with the pair playing a combined 73 Premier League games.

They are both a further year into their thirties this season though, and the Foxes back up centre-back options highlight a potential weakness, should one of either Huth or Morgan suffer a prolonged absence.
Luis Hernandez looked far from assured during his Premier League debut for the Foxes against Hull City, while Marcin Wasilewski is an accident waiting to happen whenever he takes to the pitch.
Another area of concern for Leicester fans is the full-back positions. While Danny Simpson and Christian Fuchs have proven to be top-class performers over the past year, Ranieri has little in reserve, should either of them suffer an injury or suspension.

Ben Chilwell has yet to prove himself at senior level, which leaves want away Ghana international Jeffrey Schlupp as the only other experienced senior squad member capable of filling in at full-back.
With the Foxes competing in the Champions League this term, their small squad will be pushed to the limits both physically and mentally.
It seems as though the Leicester hierarchy have put all of their eggs in one basket in focusing purely on the attacking side of the squad, whilst somewhat neglecting the defensive department.
It could be a decision that back-fires on them during what will be the most demanding season that the East Midlanders have faced to date.
