Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after Mikel Arteta was asked if Jack Wilshere could train at London Colney.
What’s the story?
Well, the Hale End Academy graduate is currently a free agent after leaving Bournemouth at the end of last season.
When asked if he would be allowed to maintain his fitness by training with the team at London Colney, Football London quote Arteta as saying: “Our doors are always open.”
The 29-year-old racked up 198 appearances for Arsenal during his 10 years in the first-team, before he left for West Ham in 2018.
Wilshere actually arrived at Hale End in 2001, so his association with the Gunners lasted an incredible 17 years.
Sadly, the 34-cap England international’s career is in danger, following injury-hit spells with the Hammers and Bournemouth.
Wilshere only made 19 appearances in two years at West Ham.
Should Mikel Arteta give Jack Wilshere an Arsenal lifeline?

In our view, while this would be a romantic move, it just wouldn’t make sense for the Gunners.
Admittedly, Arteta is a bit light on numbers in midfield, but Wilshere simply isn’t the answer.
Two clubs have now taken punts on the midfielder, purely because of how good he once was, and it has backfired for them.
Nowadays, he can’t really be relied on, through no fault of his own.

It’s crushing to see Wilshere’s career fizzle out like this.
Were it not for his injuries, we could be talking about one of the best English players of all-time – he really was that good.
However, Arteta has a job to do, and he can’t afford to let sentiment get in the way.
Let’s see what the Arsenal fans on Twitter have been saying about Arteta’s comments on Wilshere…
