Newcastle United signed Islam Slimani from Leicester City, but he has not made an appearance yet due to injury.
If Islam Slimani can make the same impact at Newcastle United as Rafael Benitez’s other January signings, then he may be the man to keep the Magpies in the Premier League.
Kenedy and Martin Dubravka both look to have been superb additions at Newcastle, with the pair’s quality already being clear to see.
Kenedy has now played three times for Newcastle, and he has been one of their brightest attacking threats on all of his appearances.
Dubravka, meanwhile, only made his debut for the Magpies yesterday – but his class was clear to see.
The Slovakian international helped Newcastle pick up a 1-0 victory over Manchester United, and he pulled off a number of excellent saves in the contest.
Dubravka also commanded his area well from crosses, and looked far more solid than either Karl Darlow or Rob Elliott have this term.
And if Slimani proves as much of an upgrade as Kenedy and Dubravka have, then Newcastle will surely have enough to survive in the Premier League.
Newcastle were in brilliant form against the Red Devils, and Dwight Gayle put in a great shift, but they are still looking for a proven goalscorer.
Joselu currently leads Newcastle’s scoring charts with just four goals to his name, and Benitez needs to find a regular scorer to ensure his side’s safety.
Slimani is yet to show what he can do at St. James’ Park, due to injury, but the signs are positive that Newcastle’s January business has been smart.
And if Slimani does prove to be the goalscoring striker that Newcastle have been missing, it may be the final piece of the jigsaw for Benitez’s men.
