Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United youngster McTominay on loan.

Celtic are reportedly after Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay on loan until the end of the season as Brendan Rodgers looks to bring in more players – but does interest in the youngster suggest Celtic will sell one of their current stars?

According to the Daily Record, Celtic are keen to land 22-year-old McTominay on loan, but the Manchester United star is unsure about joining the Scottish champions.

The Hoops have added three attacking players this month in loans for PSG star Timothy Weah and West Bromwich Albion’s Oliver Burke, while Ivorian striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo has joined permanently.

Now, additions are expected in midfield, right-back and centre-back as Rodgers looks to bring in the quality necessary to see off the challenge of Old Firm rivals Rangers and make it a third consecutive league title.

But is the Hoops interest in McTominay proof that they are planning for life without French star Olivier Ntcham?

The former Manchester City star has been linked with a move to Porto, with the Scottish Sun claiming Celtic could receive as much as £14million and defender Chancel Mbemba for the ex-Genoa loanee’s services.

Celtic do need a centre-back and were interested in Mbemba before the DR Congo international chose to join Porto from Newcastle United ahead of Brendan Rodgers’ Scottish champions.

Rodgers’ side only spent £4.5million to sign Ntcham in the summer of 2017, so raking in the eight-figure fee for the midfielder would more than triple their money – as well as solving an issue at centre-back.

It will be difficult to reject for Celtic, and the reported interest in McTominay suggests that perhaps Celtic are looking to replace Ntcham sooner rather than later.
