Ibrox defender Lee Hodson was left out of Rangers 18-man squad against Ayr.

Sunday’s Scottish Cup clash against Ayr United would have been the perfect chance to give Rangers defender Lee Hodson some much-needed game time, but does Graeme Murty’s snub leave the defender in the abyss?
The 26-year-old was left out of the Gers squad completely to face the third-tier Scottish side, as Rangers ran riot at Somerset Park to win 6-1.
A brace from Josh Windass and Alfredo Morelos, as well as strikes from Jason Cummings and Jamie Murphy proved too much for Ayr who went into the lead after a Wes Foderingham blunder.

With Northern Ireland international Hodson – who has been capped 22 times by his country – in need of first-team game time, the Scottish Cup fifth round tie seemed to be the likeliest opportunity for senior minutes under Murty.
But the former MK Dons defender failed to even make the bench and now question marks will surely arise over his long-term future with the Scottish giants – especially because of the form of James Tavernier.
Tavernier is one of the first names on the Rangers team sheet at the moment, having a hand in 14 goals during his 32 league and cup appearances this season. He has scored six, turning provider on a further eight strikes.

With Tavernier firmly planted as the club’s first-choice right-back and Rangers now in the final rounds of the Scottish Cup, surely Hodson has ran out of chances to show why he can still prove effective at Ibrox before the summer window?
Although he has 18 months remaining on his current Rangers contract, Hodson will surely be surplus to requirements when it comes to the summer window.
