Martin Keown has claimed that Aaron Ramsdale is doing his talking on the pitch for Arsenal, as he told BT Sport.
The TV pundit claimed that Ramsdale is a ‘character’ and someone who the Arsenal are ‘starting to trust’.
On Saturday, Ramsdale produced a number of outstanding saves, as the Gunners recorded a deserved 2-0 win at Leicester City.
One moment, in particular, left many supporters stunned when Ramsdale prevented James Maddison’s free-kick from hitting the back of the net.
It was a moment of utter brilliance from Arsenal’s summer signing and he is now becoming a key player for the club.
Keown lauded the 23-year-old and what he is seeing from him during these early stages of his career in North London.
“You need a character,” said Keown. “I really like the way he analyses and assessed Maddison, who he was familiar with from the U21’s. He knew the possible angles and all of that helped. That’s real intelligence.
“He looks like a real character and the fans now love him. It helps when you are throwing shirts into the crowd. But it helps when you are pulling off outstanding saves.
“He does his talking on the pitch. Only played seven games for Arsenal, albeit they have been very good.
“But he’s a long way off (England’s number one). Pickford’s currently in charge. But if he keeps performing, it can happen for him, no doubt – they are certainly starting to trust the goalkeeper.”
It was a big call from Mikel Arteta to ditch his previously trustworthy and long-standing number one in Bernd Leno.
But it’s a move that is paying off because Ramsdale is probably the form keeper in the Premier League right now.
Whilst Leno didn’t do much wrong, his fellow counterpart has added something different that he didn’t before.
That’s character and personality, which is being recognised by the fans and rubbing off on the rest of the players.
