The Toffees have brought in a number of promising players, but Lacazette is of a higher profile than any of their six new faces.
The French international is also considerably more expensive than any player the Toffees have signed, and that suggests that Ronald Koeman may not have spent all of his transfer budget just yet.
Indeed, if Everton were planning to bring in Lacazette, it may just hint that Koeman is plotting to bring in a top class striker before the close of the window.
Everton have already snapped up Sandro Ramirez, but relying on a youngster to replace Lukaku would be a big risk.
