How Everton wanting Diego Simeone from Atletico Madrid could actually help David Unsworth get the job – for now.
Farhad Moshiri, Everton owner, is seen prior to the Premier League match against Watford.
However, the issue is having just signed a new contract at Atleti until 2020 there are doubts over whether Simeone would be willing to leave the Spanish capital midway through the season.
Diego Simeone, manager of Atletico Madrid, reacts during the UEFA Champions League group C match against Qarabag FK.
Therefore if Moshiri is keen on bringing the Argentine to Goodison Park then he may have to wait until the summer and as a result a short-term appointment will be needed until then.
That is likely to rule out Sean Dyche and Marco Silva, two of the favourites for the job according to Skybet, who would probably not leave Burnley or Watford respectively for such a short contract.
Sam Allardyce, who is currently unemployed and is being considered for the position, is thought to only be tempted back in management after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last term by a long-term project.
David Unsworth, caretaker manager of Everton, looks on during the Premier League match against Watford.
So that leaves current caretaker David Unsworth, who had lost his first three games in charge in all competitions after taking over from Koeman, before beating the Hornets 3-2 in the Premier League in the Toffees’ last outing before the international break.
Unsworth has made no secret of the fact he wants to become boss permanently and has been backed by chairman Bill Kenwright, so maybe the 44-year-old could get the job until May before Moshiri tries to tempt Simeone once again?
