Does Brentford’s bid for Sergi Canos mean Jota to Glasgow Rangers deal could be back on?

Glasgow Rangers boss Mark Warburton is reportedly keen to reunite with the 25-year-old at Ibrox.

Is there a chance that Jota’s move to Glasgow Rangers could be back on again?

The Spaniard has returned to Brentford following a disappointing loan to Eibar, amid reports of an immediate switch to Ibrox, where his old boss Mark Warburton had reportedly identified him as a priority January target.

It was quickly reported, however, that the move had broken down, with the financial terms of a proposed loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer proving ‘too prohibitive’ for the Gers [Scottish Sun].

But by baulking at Brentford’s demands, is it possible that Rangers have in fact called the Championship side’s bluff and a cheaper deal could now be discussed?

It had also been claimed the Bees were planning on using Jota in the second half of the campaign, though the 25-year-old’s first team prospects are perhaps not as bright as they seemed, given the Londoners have this week placed a bid for another Spanish winger – and another one associated with the Ibrox side in recent months – Norwich City’s Sergi Canos [West London Sport].

After all, it was Canos on whom Brentford relied during Jota’s period of unavailability last season, when they finished ninth in the Championship.

Though Sullay Kaikai was recalled by Crystal Palace this week, the winger was hardly a regular for Dean Smith’s side – starting just six league games while on loan at Griffin Park.

So is the Bees’ Canos bid in fact be a come-and-get-Jota plea to Rangers? That, we should know fairly soon, as if the latter features in Saturday’s FA Cup fixture against Eastleigh he can not then play for a third club this season – and the Gers speculation can finally be put to bed… at least the next six months.

Jota or not-a – can Glasgow Rangers still get their man?
