Celtic are set to meet Glasgow Rangers at Ibrox this weekend, and Brendan Rodgers may have a trick up his sleeve.

Brendan Rodgers may have a trick up his sleeve, ahead of Celtic’s clash against Rangers this weekend.

Celtic are set to take on their Glasgow rivals at Ibrox on Saturday.

And Rodgers’ comments to the Glasgow Evening Times ahead of the match, may just hint that he has a plan to partner Leigh Griffiths with Moussa Dembele up-front for the contest.

Celtic utilised the pair against Ross County, and it worked to great impact, with the Bhoys picking up a 4-0 victory.

In that contest both Dembele got on the scoresheet, and Rodgers’ suggested he saw plenty of promise from the way the duo worked together.

“That was the best they had played together,” he said. “Instead of playing on their own, we spent some work on it last week, looking at different movements patterns, playing with the two of them together.

“The idea was to try and have another system up our sleeve that we can play when we play against a team that plays a certain way so we can give them a problem. I thought they did that very well on the back of a really intense game at the weekend.

“The two boys linked up really well. One was always occupying their defensive line, one was in the space alongside the two advanced midfield players, then we always had width. The players worked how we were set up very, very well. It was really positive in terms of how we played and showed that with more work and more development and more coaching they could do it even better.”

If Rodgers can devise a system which can include both his main goalscorers, then it may just take Celtic to the next level.

Griffiths and Dembele have generally been in competition with each other for the striking spot, with both scoring regularly.

But Celtic’s attacking threat may just increase with the pair working in tandem.

And it may be that Rodgers is experimenting, to make sure the pair are on the same wavelength, to be unleashed together against Rangers.
