Does Bradford City fans’ praise suggest Rangers should’ve kept Nicky Law?

Law has been a major factor in Bradford City’s push for promotion but he may have been a useful squad player at Rangers.

Rangers' Nicky Law in action

It was no real surprise when Nicky Law rocked up at Bradford City following his release from Rangers at the end of last season. After all, he has now worked with Bantams boss Stuart McCall on four separate occasions, their relationship straying into Neil Warnock/Paddy Kenny territory.

And the 28-year-old’s influential performances in the midfield have given Bradford hope of returning to the second tier for the first time since 2004. And while it would be a little extreme to suggest that Law would walk into Rangers’ current midfield, you wonder whether his neat and tidy link play could have made him a handy member of the squad this season.

Law played a major role in Rangers’ rise through the lower leagues after they were dropped to the fourth tier in 2013, his composure in possession and threat in the final third helping him to 25 goals in his first two seasons at Ibrox.

However, after struggling to retain any sort of consistency after an injury hit third season, Mark Warburton dispensed with his services once Rangers had secured their return to the Scottish Premiership.

And although he has recently been singled out for criticism from a number of Bradford fans with his energy fading in the final weeks of the season, Law’s move to Valley Parade has been an unquestioned success.

And with Rangers a little short on depth in central midfield, you wonder if Pedro Caixinha could have made use of the quick-footed schemer.
