Wolverhampton Wanderers will let Ben Marshall go in January – just a year after he joined from Blackburn Rovers.
Paul Lambert bringing his former Blackburn Rovers winger Ben Marshall to Molineux in January was one of the few stand-out positives in a disappointing six-month reign.
Though it’s perhaps fitting that one of the few players brought to Wolves during Lambert’s tenure now appears likely to be one of the first casualties of the Nuno Espirito Santo regime.
According to The Sun (8th October, page 61), Wolves are ready to loan the Scottish wideman out during the January transfer window. Considering that Marshall has started just one Championship game all season, this may be the best decision for all parties.
And perhaps the one-time Leicester City youngster can blame the increasingly impressive form of his Wolves’ team-mate for his own limited game time in 2017/18.
Ivan Cavaleiro’s debut season in English football can perhaps be best described as ‘hit and miss’ but the Portuguese powerhouse is now showing exactly why Wolves paid a then-club record £7 million to bring him from Monaco last summer, as reported by the BBC.
While Atletico Madrid loanee Diogo Jota has hoarded the plaudits, Cavaleiro has been something of an unsung hero this season.
The Portuguese youth international may have only started four games and scored once but his tally of four assists shows he is starting to thrive in a supporting role this season. Cavaleiro produced arguably his finest performance in a Wolves shirt in the 4-0 thrashing of Burton Albion before the international break, setting up two goals in a Man of the Match display.
Though if Cavaleiro cannot force his way into the Wolves’ XI on a regular basis, what chance does Marshall have?
