Having targeted Carlo Ancelotti, Rafa Benitez and Roberto Mancini and appointed David Moyes, just how clueless are the West Ham board?

David Moyes has been named the new manager of West Ham United, succeeding Slaven Bilic following his sacking on Monday (November 6).

Moyes wasn’t the first choice, though, with the Sun reporting that Carlo Ancelotti, Rafa Benitez and Roberto Mancini all rejected the Hammers before the Scot was appointed.

Neither Benitez or Mancini wanted to leave their current positions at Newcastle United and Zenit St Petersburg respectively, while Ancelotti preferred to remain unemployed for the time being after he was axed by Bayern Munich in September.

To go from thinking they could attract Champions League and Premier League winners to appointing a boss who was dismissed by Sunderland in May having got them relegated from the English top flight is quite the step down.

In fact it shows just how little focus the West Ham board have when it comes to having any sort of clear agenda. From the move to the London Stadium, to their transfer policy, there seems to be a lack of thought going into major decisions.

Now Moyes has been thrown in at the deep end at a club who just dropped into the bottom three following a 4-1 home defeat to Liverpool that cost Bilic his job and the fact they are not revealing how long the 54-year-old’s contract is just further adds to the ludicrous nature of this process.
