Martin Keown has questioned on Stadium Astro whether Nuno Espirito Santo ‘really wants to empty out another midfield player’ out before Tuesday’s deadline.
The player Keown is making reference to is Tanguy Ndombele and how he hasn’t featured at all for Tottenham this season.
There are suggestions that Ndombele wants to leave Spurs before Tuesday’s deadline, as reported by Sky Sports.
Spurs have already parted ways with Moussa Sissoko, who left for Watford and played against Spurs yesterday.
But given that Nuno might be light in the middle of the park, Keown thinks it’s best Ndombele stays put.
“What you have to look at is Sissoko has just left the football club,” said Keown. “Do you really want to empty out another midfield player?
“Ndombele, I thought actually in the second half of Mourinho’s tenure, he was given a decent role and he took over from Dele Alli playing advanced in the midfield.
“He was actually starting to look the part, but he has never quite taken the eye of the Spurs fans. But maybe Nuno will feel he wants to keep him? We will have to wait and see on that one.
“Maybe that’s what has happened with Ndombele, he feels that the manager just doesn’t want him there – I would like to think he would be given another opportunity if he doesn’t find that move.”
The big problem here is that Ndombele is Tottenham’s club-record signing and there’s no way Daniel Levy is going to part ways with him just like that.
Given that the Frenchman’s value is dropping by the day, Levy has to work out a way to stop that from happening and build on his value once more.
Perhaps that’s trying to get him back to his best and into Nuno’s plans at Spurs, is a start.
If not then a loan deal might be the sensible route where he can showcase in different colours what he is all about because, at this moment in time, Ndombele is heading towards being a disaster of a signing.
