Gary Neville was on the wind-up on Wednesday night, but it seemingly didn’t work for the Manchester United legend because Liverpool ended up securing a 3-2 win against AC Milan in their Champions League opener.

But before proceedings could kick-off at Anfield, Neville posted on Instagram a 16-second clip of the Liverpool supporters singing ‘You will never walk alone’.

He then pans the camera to his young daughter and asks her whether she can ‘hear that’ and then warns her to ‘never sing that’ to which she, of course, agreed.

This is how Neville reacted to the Liverpool supporters before their heavyweight showdown with AC Milan last night:

“Do you hear that song, kid,” Neville asked his daughter. “Never sing that, ever. Agreed?”

After Neville’s daughter agreed that she ‘won’t’ sing it, he then added: “We are all good.”

On paper, Liverpool v AC Milan was a blockbuster showdown and neutrals supporters would have had their popcorns out because the entertainment value was on point.

Neville certainly would have enjoyed Mohamed Salah’s penalty miss when his side were 1-0 up and dominating proceedings in the first half.

Only for the Italian giants to stun those inside Anfield by scoring two goals in next to no time and going into the break with a 2-1 lead.

There is something about this fixture and crazy comeback moments and periods of moments, albeit this one was on a much smaller scale.

But after the break, Liverpool turned it up with Salah combining well with Divock Origi to level the scores, before a stunning first-time well-taken effort from Jordan Henderson on the edge of the area sealed the points for his side.

The Liverpool captain channelled his inner Steven Gerrard and did what the Rangers boss used to do in his hay day, under the lights, on a European night against a top opponent.

And that’s scoring spectacular winning goals.
