Scottish Premiership rivals Celtic and Rangers have both been linked with signing Steven Caulker in the last year or so and now he is a free agent.

Both Celtic and Rangers have something in common. They both want to sign a new centre-back next month.
According to the Express, Steven Gerrard has made defensive reinforcements a priority with the January transfer window set to swing open in the near future while Old Firm rivals Celtic also face the unenviable task of finding a replacement for Dedryck Boyata.
Diario Record claimed on Thursday that Mexican international Edson Alvarez of Club America is one name on The Hoops’ radar.
So surely the ongoing availability of Steven Caulker should not go unnoticed.
Former England international Caulker is still a free-agent having departed Dundee at the end of a short-term spell at Dens Park. The Mirror (8 August, page 58) claimed that Rangers were keen to sign the powerful centre-back while Celtic have been linked too.
The Scottish Sun claimed that the Hoops had held talks with Caulker when he left QPR in 2017 with Brendan Rodgers having worked with him during an impressive loan spell at Swansea City.

Now, unlike many of the defenders who have been linked with Celtic and Rangers of late, Caulker has experience of playing in the Scottish top flight, having impressed during his short spell at Dundee.
And, with the 26-year-old available for absolutely nothing, he would be very cost effective, too.
