Wolves defender Cameron John is a big talent – and Leeds United should consider him with Wolves prepared to loan him to a Championship rival.
While Gaetano Berardi was much improved in Leeds United’s 2-0 win at Barnsley at Saturday lunchtime, Thomas Christiansen’s side still appear a little weak on the left-hand side of their defence.
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Vurnon Anita, Stuart Dallas and Berardi have all been trialled in the role this season but none has really nailed down a place – meaning the departure of Charlie Taylor to Burnley has been felt quite strongly.
But with The Mail reporting on Sunday that Wolves may allow the highly-rated Cameron John to leave Molinuex for a rival club in January, perhaps the 18-year-old will emerge as an option for Leeds.
The report states that plenty of Championship clubs have expressed an interest in the young defender, who can play at centre-half or left-back. John has impressed with the club’s Under-23s but, with the path to the first-team blocked by the brilliant Barry Douglas, it’s understood that Wolves will let him leave on loan in the New Year to get some first-team football under his belt.
And while John is yet to prove himself at senior level in the Championship, perhaps Leeds should consider putting their faith in the youngster for the next few months.
On the flipside, however, owner Leeds boss Andrea Radrizzani has started to find himself on the wrong end of criticism from some supporters who believe he should be investing more funds in the squad.
Bringing in an unproven teenager on a temporary basis from a league rival is unlikely to sate the demands of fans who want statement signings and players who have shown they can cut it at the top end of England’s second tier.
