Rangers’ Scottish Premiership captain James Tavernier is reportedly a January target for Brighton and Hove Albion.

If you were to compile a list of the Premier League’s most impressive summer signings, Martin Montoya is unlikely to be at the top of the list
But the Spanish right-back has been quietly impressive since arriving at Brighton and Hove Albion from Valencia this summer for a bargain fee of £6 million. The 27-year-old has started six Premier League matches so far and certainly looks at home on British shores.
So this is a warning to James Tavernier as the Rangers captain is linked with a move to The Amex ahead of the January transfer window.
As reported by the Mail, Chris Hughton’s Brighton are keen to bring the former Newcastle United youngster to the South Coast.
But while Tavernier is an indispensable part of Rangers’ starting XI and the current skipper of Ibrox, there is a real chance that he could end up warming the bench at Brighton. So, quite simply, what is in it for him?

Yes, the Premier League could offer greater exposure and bigger wages but Tavernier is currently a key cog of a promising and exciting Rangers side who are on the up and fast under Steven Gerrard.
There appears to be a genuine chance that Scottish football is no longer a one-horse race. And the prospect of dragging Rangers back to greatness should appeal more than sitting on the bench in a mid-table Premier League battle.
