Wolverhampton Wanderers are hoping to take the Premier League by storm after sealing promotion from the Championship.

Ruben Neves has been a cut above in the Championship this season.

The club’s £15.8 million record signing has repaid that fee with interest with a brilliant debut campaign at Molineux, showing just why the former Porto youngster was once the youngest captain in Champions League history.

And although Neves has spent the season in England’s second tier, it is clear that this most gifted of midfielders has the natural talent to play in Europe’s premiere club competition and look right at home.

But could Neves be joined by another Champions League quality midfielder in Old Gold next season?

Ladbrokes have made newly promoted Wolves one of the front-runners to sign Jack Wilshere when his contract expires at Arsenal this summer, offering 6/1 odds for the 34-time England international to rock up in the Black Country on a free transfer.

And the prospect of a fully fit Wilshere partnering Neves in Wolves’ midfield is enough to get even the most sage supporter drooling.

Wilshere has been back to his influential best at times for Arsenal in the last few months and, when not stuck in the treatment room, is one of the most naturally gifted midfielders in the Premier League.

Last year Newcastle United were promoted to the Premier League with a group of seemingly Championship-level players, such as Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie, who had proven themselves in the second tier but not necessarily in the top flight.

Wolves, in stark contrast, would be fielding two players of genuine Champions League quality if they can line Neves up alongside Wilshere.
