Dylan McGeouch’s Celtic career might have amounted to just 27 appearances between 2011 and 2015 but, ever since he departed for Hibernian the Glasgow-born play-maker has set about showing the Hoops what they could have had.
And it is fair to say he is doing just that.
McGeouch has evolved into one of the top midfielders in Scottish football and, since Hibs returned to the top flight this year, has barely missed a beat. In fact, you could argue that the 25-year-old, on current form, would walk into Celtic’s midfield.
Blessed with a velvet touch and the ability to thread the ball through the eye of the needle, McGeouch is playing the best football of his career right now after overcoming the injury problems that dogged his first two years at Easter Road.
He has arguably outshone Hibs teammate John McGinn, the sought-after Scotland international who has been relentlessly linked with a £5 million move to Parkhead.
With Olivier Ntcham struggling at times to live up to his £4 million price-tag, Kouassi Eboue in and out of the team and Stuart Armstrong nowhere near his exceptional levels of last season, you could forgive Celtic fans for wondering why they did not give the gifted McGeouch more of a chance.
