Marvin Compper is reportedly set to leave Scottish Premiership champions Celtic after just 83 minutes of football for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Marvin Compper of Leipzig looks on during the UEFA Champions League group G soccer match between RB Leipzig and Besiktas at the Leipzig Arena in Leipzig, Germany on December 06, 2017.

There were a few reasons for Celtic fans to overlook the concerns about Marvin Compper’s age or his lack of game time when he arrived in January for £1 million (BBC).

The 33-year-old might have warmed the bench in the first half of 2017/18 for RB Leipzig but he was a regular the season before, starting 25 Bundesliga games as the newly promoted side finished runners-up behind Bayern Munich.

And, at one time, Compper had been deemed good enough to play for Germany, although his one and only cap did come all the way back in 2009.

But it seems those who were sceptical about the centre-back’s mid-season arrival were right all along. In seven months in Scotland, injuries have restricted Compper to just 83 minutes of football, all coming in a cup clash against second division Greenock Morton.

And the Scottish Sun reports that the former Fiorentina man could be shunted out before Friday’s transfer deadline despite the fact that he has two years left on his contract.

With Dedryck Boyata hoping to leave and Jack Hendry still unconvincing, a fit and in-form Compper would have been a useful member of Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

Instead, he is set to leave and he will not be remembered fondly by the fans.
