Celtic look set to land the youngest player at the 2018 World Cup.

According to The Mail (live blog, 1.31pm), Manchester City are set to utilise their connections to win the race for the coveted Australian teenager Daniel Arzani. The 19-year-old, who has exploded onto the scene Down Under with the Premier League champions’ sister club Melbourne City, was a target for PSV and Roma but is now heading to the Etihad for £280,000.

And the Daily Record adds that Celtic are set to benefit. After City loaned John Guidetti, Jason Denayer and Patrick Roberts to Parkhead, it has been reported that Celtic will now land Arzani for two years with a deal having been agreed in principle.

Arzani might be the biggest talent to come out of Australia in the last decade but, while his reputation sky rockets, he should heed this word of warning from his international team-mate Milos Degenek.

“It’s not about just getting your name in the papers and thinking that you’re a good player,” the 24-year-old Red Star Belgrade defender told The World Game.

“You have to work hard and sacrifice a lot because talent isn’t always enough. He knows how good he is, I guess. But he has a very long way to go and a lot work to do to be at a good level.

“To realise his full potential, I think he has to work a lot harder than he does now. He has the ability to be one of the best players.”

There aren’t many better managers for the talented winger to work under, then, than Brendan Rodgers. The Northern Irishman has his coaching roots in youth football and is arguably responsible for the success of Raheem Sterling, Joe Allen, Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney among others.
