Paul Lambert wants more experience in his defence so former Wolves defender Michael Mancienne, out of contract at Nottingham Forest, fits the bill.

Michael Mancienne - Nottingham Forest

Michael Mancienne, former England Under-21 captain and one-time jewel in the crown of Chelsea’s academy, is now nine months away from his 30th birthday. Feel old yet?

And, as it stands, he could be reigning in the big three zero by finding himself a new club. The defender is out of contract at Nottingham Forest in the summer and manager Mark Warburton is yet to make a decision over whether to keep the experienced Mancienne at the City Ground next season.

That is despite the fact his impressive recent form has prevented Forest’s relegation concerns becoming a frightening reality. He was superb, after all, in Saturday’s crucial 3-2 win against Reading.

HITC sources told us earlier this month that Forest plan on sitting down with Mancienne at the end of the season to discuss his future but, with a number of Championship clubs keen on offering him a contract, the uncertainty may convince him to start afresh elsewhere.

And it would be little surprise if former club Wolves were not present in the queue of potential suitors. Mancienne spent three seasons on loan at Molineux from 2008 to 2011, helping the club gain promotion to the Premier League in his debut campaign.

And with manager Paul Lambert insisting that he wants more experience in his rather youthful squad, Mancienne could fit the bill.

After all, 21-year-old pairing Dominic Iorfa and Kortney Hause have both endured inconsistent seasons while the fact that veteran defender Mike Williamson has been restricted to just four appearances thanks to injury has not helped their cause.

Therefore, they should consider welcoming Mancienne back to Molineux.
