Andre Gomes scored a stunning goal as Everton were beaten 3-1 at home by Wolverhampton Wanderers in Saturday’s Premier League clash.
It seems that Andre Gomes is one of the few Jorge Mendes clients in the Premier League who is not wearing the famous gold shirt of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Instead, the Portuguese international is donning the blue of Everton, having arrived at Goodison Park last summer on loan from Barcelona.
And Gomes, who flopped badly at the Camp Nou after arriving from Valencia for £29 million (BBC), has certainly rebuilt his reputation on Merseyside with a number of stylish and commanding performances in an otherwise under-performing Toffees team.
The 25-year-old also scored his first Premier League goal at the 18th attempt on Saturday, fizzing a stunning strike into the roof of the net as Wolves travelled to the North West. It was the highlight of a dreadful afternoon for Everton, who lost 3-1 at home to Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.
And, to make matters worse for Everton’s dejected fan base, it would be no surprise if Wolves were planning a move behind-the-scenes to bring Gomes to Molineux at the end of the season.
The Sun (4 June, page 48) reported that Wolves were interested with super-agent Mendes seemingly keen to reunite the one-time Benfica youngster with his Portuguese team-mates Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Rui Patricio.
With Gomes long-term future uncertain beyond the end of the season, he has a decision to make about his future and few would blame him if he had reservations about signing for an Everton side who have failed to live up to expectations.
