The on-loan Besitkas striker would be a huge hit at Norwich City – but Wolves cannot let that happen.
It’s an indication of the rising power of the pound in the English Championship that Fotomac reports that Vincent Aboubakar is a £10 million target for Norwich City.
While big money signings are no longer a rarity in the second tier with Aston Villa, Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday paying seven-figure sums for the likes of Jonathan Kodjia, Helder Costa and Jordan Rhodes, Aboubakar moving to Carrow Road would be a different matter entirely.
The 25-year-old striker has played Champions League football in each of the last three seasons for FC Porto and at his current loan club Besiktas. He even netted twice in a stunning 3-2 away win at Napoli in the group stage this campaign, his penchant for a thumping finish making him one of the most feared forwards in the competition.
Therefore, if Norwich do indeed convince Porto to sell up for £10 million, as reported by Fotomac, this would represent one of the most remarkable coups in Championship history.
Though before The Canaries get carried away, perhaps Wolves should sit up and take notice. They are badly in need of a goalscorer after all with their most prolific striker netting just three all season.
Furthermore, as demonstrated by their £20 million summer bid for Aboubakar’s Besitkas team-mate, Anderson Talisca, the summer takeover by Chinese conglomerate Fosun International has provided them with unrivalled funds, according to The Sun.
And with Arsenal and Chelsea preparing to pay up to £20 million for talismanic winger Helder Costa, as reported by The Sun, Wolves could be in need of a marquee replacement, a forward to would prove that Fosun’s Premier League ambitions are not totally outlandish.
And Aboubakar fits the bill.
