Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers could reportedly sell Benik Afobe shortly after signing him from Bournemouth for £12.5m.

A month after the Championship season came to an end, decisions have been made on four of the six loanees who played for Wolverhampton Wanderers en route to the Premier League.

Wolves paid £33 million to sign Willy Boly, Diogo Jota and Benik Afobe, who spent last season at Molineux from Porto, Atletico Madrid and Bournemouth respectively. And, according to the Express and Star, Wolves will not take up their option to sign Leo Bonatini for £5 million. The Brazilian striker will return to Saudi club Al-Hilal after failing to score in his last 25 games for the Black Country giants.

But reports in The Sun (June 3rd, page 60) have suggested that there could still be a twist in the future of one former Wolves loanee – Afobe.

The Championship winners paid £12.5 million to sign the striker on a permanent basis after he scored six goals in eight starts since returning for a second spell at Molineux in January.

But The Sun believes that Wolves are now weighing up whether to sell Afobe on for an immediate profit with Stoke City keen to sign him to spearhead their promotion bid next season.

And making a quick buck on the former Arsenal youngster could be a masterstroke. The Mirror (6th May, page 66) recently claimed that Wolves had doubts about whether Afobe could cut it in the Premier League, having scored just 10 times in 63 games for Bournemouth.

So it was a slight surprise when they did decide to sign him permanently. So selling him straight away would be an inspired move from a financial point of view with Afobe falling into that Cameron Jerome category of strikers who have struggled to make that step up from the second division to the first.
