Robin Lod could be on his way to the Championship with Bristol City and Wolverhampton Wanderers both linked with the Panathiniakos midfielder.

If Wolverhampton Wanderers want to bring Finland international Robin Lod to Molineux this month, their task might just have got a little easier.

The Bristol Post stated in December that Wolves were keen to raid Greek side Panathinaikos for the midfielder, whose contract expires in the summer with no indication that a new deal is on the cards.

And with Panathinaikos in a difficult financial situation, the report added that Lod, who was also on the radar of promotion rivals Bristol City, could be picked up for as little as £440,000 in the January transfer window.

Now, three days into the month, Wolves have been handed a major boost in their reported pursuit of the 24-year-old.

Because Belgian publication Lavenir Sports is reporting that Standard Liege have dropped out of the race, preferring instead to turn their attention towards alternative targets. As such, this seemingly leaves Lod open for a move to England.

Where he would fit in at Wolves is up for debate. The 20-capped ace is a left-footed midfielder who is also equally comfortable out on the wing, suggesting that he would offer versatility for Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

The problem, however, is that Wolves are not exactly short of quality options either in central midfield or out wide and there are other areas of the squad that could do with a little investment first.
