Martin Odegaard has now been linked with Premier League trio Manchester City, Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers but will Real Madrid really sell?

Wolverhampton Wanderers will have to somehow stump up £72 million if they really want to sign Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid with El Desmarque pointing out that the La Liga leaders are not just going to give the wonderkid away any time soon.

Almost half a decade after the so-called ‘next Messi’ arrived at the Santiago Bernabau as the most talked-about 16-year-old in world football, Odegaard is finally starting to develop into the world class talent he was always destined to be.

Loan spells at Heerenveen and Vitesse in Holland gave the Norwegian playmaker invaluable access to first-team football and he’s been nothing short of sensational since moving to Real Sociedad in a 12-month deal in August, picking apart defences at will with his wand of a left foot.

The Sun claims that Wolves, who have a habit of signing exciting young talents with vast potential, are interested. But the club’s billionaire owners, Fosun International, will have to smash their transfer record by about £40 million if Odegaard is to wear Old Gold any time soon.

Given the lack of cutting edge in an ageing Real midfield, and with both Isco and James Rodriguez past their best, Odegaard could still have a big role to play in Madrid. Only £72 million would convince them to cash in.

Furthermore, and with all due respect to Wolves, a couple of genuine Premier League giants have expressed an interest too. Pep Guardiola apparently sees Odegaard as David Silva’s long-term successor while he could fill a Mesut Ozil-shaped void in Arsenal’s midfield too.

Wolves might have bitten off more than they can chew here.
