Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly keen to sign Leicester City’s Ahmed Musa and despite flopping at the Foxes he is a World Cup star for Nigeria.
Wolverhampton Wanderers were first linked with a move for Leicester City outcast Ahmed Musa back in May and, at the time, the reports seemed a little odd.
Musa had flopped spectacularly in England since joining the Foxes for £16 million from CSKA Moscow in the summer of 2016. He managed just seven Premier League starts in a year-and-a-half before returning to the Russian giants on loan last January.
But if Wolves fans were wondering why they wanted Musa at the time, his performances for Nigeria at the World Cup should at least shed light on one of the summer’s most intriguing transfer rumours so far.
Musa was restricted to just half an hour off the bench in Nigeria’s opening defeat to Croatia but seized his chance when included in the starting XI against Iceland on Friday afternoon. It was the 25-year-old who lit up a tight encounter with a fantastic touch and finish, blasting into the roof of the net after expertly controlling a lofted ball just after the break.
25 minutes later, Musa sealed a 2-0 win for the Africans with a wonderful individual goal which showcased the skill, speed and composure that once encouraged Leicester to make him their record signing.
World Cup signings do come with a degree of risk and the Molineux faithful would be hoping that, if he does arrive, they will see the form he showed for Nigeria rather than a repeat of his ineffective displays in Leicester blue.
