The club’s billionaire Chinese owners are determined to turn Wolves into a Premier League force and seem willing to stick around for the long term to follow their plan through. It is no coincidence that most of the players Wolves have spent big money on – Ruben Neves, Ivan Cavaleiro, Helder Costa and co – are under the age of 23.
The present is very exciting but so too is the future. And reports in Italy suggesting that Wolves are interested in signing Juventus striker Andrea Favilli reflects the club’s commitment to long-term planning.
The report adds that Juve would hope to make a substantial profit on Favilli despite the fact he has only been a Biancocelesti player for a few days. He is valued at around £17.5 million.
Paying such a massive fee for a 21-year-old who has only made 43 senior appearances in his career might seem like a massive risk, but it would prove just how committed the owners are to building for the future.
Favilli, who has represented Italy at U21 level, scored five goals in just 12 games for Ascoli in Serie B last season.
Wolves have already got one promising European goal-scorer in Rafa Mir, snapped up from Valencia under Real Madrid’s nose in January, but Favilli would be an even stronger statement.
