Patrick Cutrone has scored just one Premier League goal since Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly beat Tottenham Hotspur to his signature.

Patrick Cutrone is a 21-year-old striker just a matter of weeks into his Premier League career. So every criticism about his performances should be taken with a substantial pinch of salt.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ £23 million summer signing will improve, adapt and, if everything goes to plan, remind everyone why he was one of Europe’s hottest young strikers just two years ago.

But if you isolate his performances over the last three months, it would be churlish to suggest that Cutrone has been anything other than a little disappointing. So far, the former AC Milan wonderkid has scored just once in 16 games in all competitions and he was left out altogether during Sunday’s draw at Newcastle United.

Wasteful performances against the likes of Braga and Manchester City are still very much fresh in the memory.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo hasn’t lost faith, reminding Sky Sports that he is expecting big things from this old-school number nine, but he did admit that Cutrone hasn’t lived up to expectations so far.

In truth, he has provided little evidence thus far to suggest that Tottenham Hotspur missed a trick. According to Tuttomercatoweb, Spurs had identified Cutrone as one of their top summer targets just weeks before he ended up at Wolves instead with Mauricio Pochettino’s side still crying out for a striker capable of taking the pressure off Harry Kane.

But as long as Cutrone continues to produce performances more akin to Vincent Janssen than England’s captain, Spurs won’t exactly be ruing an opportunity missed.
