Vincent Aboubakar scored twice as FC Porto hammered Monaco 3-0 in the Champions League – imagine what he could do at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves appear to be in an excellent position to challenge for the Championship title this season. In addition to boasting one of the strongest squads in the second tier, one of the most high profile managers and the backing of super-agent Jorge Mendes, the Molineux giants have fulfilled the pre-season predictions with a fine start to the campaign.
They are currently third, three points adrift of league leaders Cardiff City with a game in hand. The potential pit-fall, however, is a lack of real depth in attack.
Six teams have scored more times than Wolves (15) so far this season while Leo Bonatini, who has hit the back of the net three times in nine games, is the only senior and natural centre-forward on the club’s books.

Therefore, you wonder whether Wolves could renew their interest in Vincent Aboubakar in January. Goal claimed in July that the Championship high-flyers were interested in the Cameroonian international and, while the reports seemed a little ambitious at first, Wolves have history when it comes to punching above their weight in the transfer market.
And the fact that a certain Mr Mendes has good links with Aboubakar’s current club Porto certainly makes an initially unrealistic deal seem, well, realistic. Wolves’ centre-back Willy Boly, winger Diogo Jota, manager Nuno Espirito Santo and club-record signing Ruben Neves all represented the Portuguese giants last season.
And Aboubakar is clearly a man in form. After inspiring Besiktas to the Super Lig title during a loan spell last season, the 26-year-old is having a similar impact at a Porto side who have won all seven of their Primeira Liga games in 2017/18.
Aboubakar scored six goals in that time before putting last season’s Champions League semi-finalists Monaco to the sword with a clinical double in the group stage clash in the principality on Tuesday.
