It has been a disappointing start to the season for Wolves, but Lambert has the tools to bring about a change.
Paul Lambert’s high-intensity approach will pay off for Wolves in the Championship, midfielder George Saville has insisted to the Express & Star.
The Scot has plenty of experience in the second tier having won promotion with Norwich City in exhilarating fashion, before enduring a much more difficult spell at the helm of Blackburn Rovers in the lead up to replacing Walter Zenga at Molineux.
Lambert’s reign got off to a somewhat disappointing start with a goalless draw with Preston North End on Saturday, a game lacking in chances and severely starved of quality in the attacking third.
However Saville, who played in an unusual left midfield role at Deepdale in his first league start since August, believes Lambert’s desire for tempo and work ethic will eventually make the difference in the Championship.
“His approach is to look for high intensity from us and I think that is massive in this league to win games,” Saville told the Express & Star.
“Some games in the Championship, it is very hard to play pretty football. All the games are very hard to win. The main thing is to be ‘in’ every game and give yourselves a chance to win.
“That is what it was like at Preston – it certainly wasn’t pretty at all. But we took a great point and that gives us something to build on.”
Lambert’s managerial stock has fallen somewhat after a dismal spell at Aston Villa preceded last season’s frustrating six-month stint at Ewood Park, but the 47-year-old has the ideal opportunity to re-establish his reputation at Molinuex.
With their ambitious new owners, Fosun International, making hefty sums available to spearhead a return to the Premier League, Lambert will have to spend more astutely that he did during his time at Villa Park.
