Hildeberto Pereira could be well placed to make a surprise move to Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer despite a mixed spell at Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest's Hildeberto Pereira

The phrase ‘cult hero’ is a difficult one to define. Usually, it refers to a player who is adored by supporters despite very glaring shortcomings.

In that sense, Hildeberto Pereria sums up the expression quite nicely. Admired by Nottingham Forest supporters for his full-blooded displays despite being sent off on three occasions last season, the dreadlocked full-back certainly made an impression during his season on loan at the City Ground from Benfica.

So much so that a number of fans would jump at the chance of bringing the 21-year-old back to the club this summer, despite manager Mark Warburton completing freezing him out of the first-team picture.

With Forest in need of more reliability than volatility with their Championship status on the line, you could understood Warburton’s decision.

However, if Pereira does indeed return to English shores this summer, it would be no surprise if Forest had a little competition for his signature. After all, the Portugal Under-20 international would not be the first player brought to Wolves from Benfica.

Lisbon Lion

Ola John, Joao Teixeira and Helder Costa all made the move from Lisbon to Molineux last summer while Ivan Cavaleiro followed a similar route with a short spell at Monaco in between.

And this certainly has something to do with the fact that Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes played a major role in recruitment due to his close links with Wolves’ Chinese owners.

According to The Telegraph, Mendes has been given full control of incomings this summer – despite not holding an official role at the club. Therefore, it would be no surprise if Pereira was to make that oddly popular pilgrimage from Lisbon to Wolverhampton.

Although, if he can tone down the impulsiveness, Pereira could be a good addition for a side who have been forced to spend the entire season with midfielder Connor Coady at right-back.
