Benfica winger Franco Cervi could do a job at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Thanks largely to their relationship with Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes, Wolves have dominated the Iberian transfer market over the last two summers.

In total, nine players have arrived at Molineux from clubs in the Primeira Liga since Mendes started pulling the strings in 2016, not to mention former Porto manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

So even though Franco Cervi is not represented by the agent of Cristiano Ronaldo, Radamel Falcao and David de Gea, it seems almost inevitable that Wolves will join the race to sign the Argentine Benfica winger this summer.

According to the Sun, Newcastle United, West Ham, Brighton and Swansea are all interested in the £20 million rated Cervi, who is keen on a move to England.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is understood to have identified Cervi as his top target if he cannot keep the Chelsea loanee Kenedy on a permanent basis.

The 23-year-old, another dazzling Argentine winger blessed with quick feet and eye for a killer pass, has shone for a Benfica side chasing a fourth straight league title, having assisted ten goals in all competitions this season.

And you can be assured that Wolves will be very aware of Cervi’s situation.

Creativity might not be a problem in Nuno’s side, with the likes of Helder Costa, Ivan Caveleiro and Barry Douglas producing assists aplenty as Wolves cruised to the Championship title. But the club needs upgrades and marquee signings this summer as they prepare for life in the Premier League.

Wolves have signed plenty of Portuguese-based talents not represented by Mendes in the last two summers and should return to their familiar hunting ground with Cervi eyeing a move to England.
