Wolverhampton Wanderers are going places and fast with Jeff Shi at the helm – firstly, the Premier League.

The likeable chairman has instilled huge changes on and off the pitch at Molineux and you would struggle to find a more exciting project in English football than the one currently taking shape in the Black Country.

Wolves are still clear at the top of the Championship with some genuinely top class talent in their ranks and are expected to put their money where their mouth is in this summer’s transfer market with Brazil international Anderson Talisca among those linked already.

Anderson Talisca of SL Benfica scores a goal against CS Maritimo during the Portuguese Primeira Liga at Estadio dos Barreiros on May 8, 2016 in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal.

And Shi, in an interview with the Express and Star, is planning not only to spend money on top class footballing talent, but to turn Molineux into one of the biggest and best arenas in the English game.

“Let’s try to get to 50,000 as soon as possible,” Shi said.

“Everyone wants to have a big stadium. It’s a step by step process and only when we build a strong team and can compete comfortably in the Premier League is the time to expand the stadium.

“Laurie (Dalrymple, Wolves’ managing director) told me that the maximum capacity may be 50,000. I even asked him can we have a bigger one like Real Madrid’s!”

Now, some supporters are obviously concerned about a potential rise in prices amid the furore of Tottenham making the cheapest pre-season ticket at their new White Hart Lane ground an eye-watering £795, per ESPN, but this, perhaps more than anything else Shi and co have done so far, is a sign of Wolves’ ambition.
