Jorge Mendes will handle Wolves’ recruitment this summer – meaning manager Paul Lambert could be set to depart.
Just when Wolves appeared to have put a madcap season behind them to look forward with a degree of positivity, news that Paul Lambert could sensationally quit Molineux has once again thrown the club into turmoil.
The Telegraph claims that Lambert is considering his future after the club’s owners, Fosun International, made it clear that super-agent Jorge Mendes would be handling all player recruitment in the off season.
This is despite the fact that, of all Mendes’ signings last summer, only former Benfica winger Helder Costa can be classed as an unqualified success. The likes of Joao Teixeira, Silvio and Ola John have ranged from the anonymous to the abysmal.
And when you consider that two of Lambert’s January additions, Ben Marshall and Andi Weimann, played a major part in the club staving off the fears of relegation, the owner’s stance appears even more baffling.
The Telegraph adds that Lambert wanted to put an end to the influx of foreign talent with Wolves’ squad crying out for Championship experience.
Therefore, it is reported that he wanted to sign Newcastle United defender Grant Hanley, influential Ipswich Town loanee Tom Lawrence from Leicester City and Chelsea-owned teenager Tammy Abraham (below) after he hit 26 goals at Bristol City in the season just gone.
The aforementioned trio would surely have been inspired signings. Yet, it appears Wolves fans will have to get used to more unknown imports – and possibly a new manager, too.
